Gonzalo Bearman, M.D., M.P.H.

 
 

Dr. Bearman is a Professor of Internal Medicine and the Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases as well as the Hospital Epidemiologist at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He is a graduate of Colgate University (BA), SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (MD) and Columbia University (MPH). He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and was chief resident, both at SUNY at Buffalo. He then completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases and a residency in Preventive Medicine/ Public Health, both at Cornell University. Dr. Bearman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and General Preventive Medicine and Public Health.


Since 2003, Dr. Bearman has served as an attending physician on the Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases services at VCU Medical Center. Dr. Bearman also served as the Clerkship Director of the M3 Internal Medicine Clerkship (2005-2011) and previously served as the 4th year Acting Internship (AI) Director. Dr. Bearman lectures in the M2 Microbiology class.


In October 2014 Dr. Stevens and Dr. Bearman were awarded the Educational Innovation Award by the VCU School of Medicine in recognition of their educational efforts with GH2DP.


Since 2005 Dr. Bearman has precepted students and residents in Honduras in conjunction with the non-profit organization the Honduras Outreach Medical Brigada Relief Effort (HOMBRE) and the VCU Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bearman is one of the site leaders for the GH2DP Department of Yoro site in Northern Honduras, and has mentored numerous residents and students on global health related projects.
